Taylor Janzen Gives Us "Something Better"
Taylor Janzen is back with another introspective single. The 22-year-old Canadian artist stays true to her indie-pop roots with “Something Better”, while letting herself be vulnerable with her fans.
“Something Better” starts off with an acoustic guitar, an indicator of the delicate but important matters that Taylor sings about in this song. The guitar feeds into the pop beat and remains present as she sings about the consciousness she’s gained while trying to heal from her own trauma and how so many of us have lived through similar or the same circumstances.
On writing “Something Better,” Taylor said “I wrote Something Better about how our childhood experiences shape who we are as adults. Over the past year I’ve learned a lot about nurturing my inner child, hearing them out, making room for them.
A lot of the things I struggle with now as an adult are patterns that started from generations before me, wounds that were never healed, born from people who never learned how to heal. This song is about wanting better for myself, tending to my fears and trying to find new healthy ways to exist.”
The journey to healing is oftentimes painful, but “Something Better” serves as a reminder that it’s necessary and that we are not alone. Taylor Janzen’s ability to be vulnerable about her thoughts and feelings as she’s embarked on this path is reassuring and will no doubt touch the heart of listeners as it has ours.
