Culture Wars Satisfies Our "Hunger" With Their Latest Release
Culture Wars have returned to give us another taste of their upcoming EP teche, with the release of the rock influenced track “Hunger”.
The band has shown us that they can be flexible with their sound. “Hunger” brings in a warbling bass, shimmering synths, and a hypnotic high register hook before dissolving into a cathartic drum and key freak-out punctuated by otherworldly guitar. It’s different from their previous releases that have stayed true to their alternative nature.
“I was at a weird place in my life,” said Alex. “For me, it was a release of energy. Retrospectively, ‘Hunger’ could be about distancing yourself from emotion in a relationship where you’ve had to disassociate due to dysfunction.”
The heavier sound is reflective of that message. With the lyrics and stylistic choice of this release, you can tell that Culture Wars have matured over the past year while they’ve been recording. It comes as no surprise that the band chose to use vintage gear and classic, organic instruments while creating the music; it adds to the authentic feeling that “Hunger” has.
Culture Wars recruited GRAMMY® Award winner Manny Marroquin to aid them in mixing and putting the finishing touches on their recent releases. With their talent and vision accompanied by Manny’s expertise, there’s no doubt that teche will impress us.
In the end, Culture Wars progress by continuing to challenge themselves while still having a good time in the process. They give it their all in their music and “Hunger” is no exception.
