CLEWS Announce Their Latest EP “Loveluck Omens”
The dynamic sibling duo CLEWS have returned to release their latest EP Loveluck Omens including the focus single “Cuban Heel”, a modern indie-rock piece to show off the girls’ new direction. The EP includes CLEWS’ recent releases “Overluck” and “Want You That Way.” Earlier this week, the girls announced their upcoming podcast series Love Clews, which will drop on Spotify on Monday 24th May.
Centred on being lucky in life, though unlucky with love, a feeling the sister pair know oh too well, Loveluck Omens uses Lily and Grace’s personal experiences for strong introspective songwriting that speaks to the masses. Their vulnerability on this EP allows for fans to make a deeper connection with the artists as they recount realistic tales of love.
“This EP and everything that comes with it is a completely unfiltered exploration of a simple idea: I turned 25 last year and have never been in love or in a relationship,” said Lily. “The songs reflect on what it's like to be forever single, to build a wonderful life without a partner in crime and how never having had a boyfriend (or girlfriend) seems like an unusual predicament. As a woman, I have navigated so many ideas around companionship, sex, romance, self-worth, bodies and everything in between and these songs gather all my thoughts on the concept of 'love' that humans have been obsessed with since biblical times.”
The EP’s focus track, titled after the popular slanted heel boot typically worn by indie folk “Cuban Heel” is a rock-fueled track featuring mesmerising lyrics and soaring instrumentation; a reflection of the feeling of falling for someone and the way it can surprise you and even make you question yourself.
CLEWS kept busy in 2020, using their time off the road to focus on creating their first body of work and recalibrating their live show to be ready for their eventual full-capacity return. They have recently returned to stages in Sydney supporting DMA’S, selling out two headline shows at The Lansdowne and appearing at venues in Newcastle and Wollongong, always putting a personal touch to each of their appearances for their audiences they now consider part of the big CLEWS extended family.
The band’s development as a live act has influenced their songwriting; with a certain looseness and a natural approach to performance putting their light and loving dynamic assisters on display and permeating through new studio recordings. Having spent the last year building a reputation as a formidable live act both in Australia and the UK, CLEWS have become more than just a band to watch.
