Sibling Duo CLEWS Are Indie Rock Rebels In Latest Single “Overluck”
The sister duo CLEWS have returned with their latest single “Overluck”, another sneak peek into the new era of sound and style announced alongside their recently released single “Want You That Way”. The femmes of indie rock are giving us a fully charged alternative anthem on this track.
The pair have managed to create such a unique sound profile, charged with divine femine energy, rock roots and elevated production, they are beautifully and distinctly CLEWS . Featuring strong melodic vocals, fiercely energetic instrumentation and strong lyricism, “Overluck” is proving CLEWS as a mighty force in rock.
“This song introduces the theme for the upcoming EP: being lucky in life but unlucky in love. Songwriting is like sharing my feelings with myself, and I didn't realise how worried I was about being alone until I wrote ‘Overluck’. I reflect on being happy where I am in my life but wondering if I'm missing something because I've never been in love. The chorus is a powerful mantra for me as a woman - a reminder that I've made the right choices in my life and always have the power to choose my path. I am the architect of my happiness and pleasure, I don't have to be with anyone I don't want to be with. I will always choose a real spark over the fear of being on my own,“ said CLEWS.
“Our producer Dylan Adams [‘Want You That Way’, DMA’s, West Thebarton] really helped us take ‘Overluck’ out of our guitar-driven comfort zone while keeping the bittersweet sound we always try to capture in our choruses. It’s become one of the all-time favourite songs we’ve made so far because it’s so personal to me but so fun to listen to. All we want to do is make music that we love, that is driven by harmonies and with lyrics that people can hear themselves in,” said CLEWS.
The most recent release from CLEWS “Want You That Way” saw the duo leaving room to explore sounds and follow inspirations further than ever before in their writing practice. Marking the start of a new era, the track was featured by Women In Pop, NME Australia, Happy Mag, Milky among others.
CLEWS kept busy in 2020, creating their first body of work and continuing to play live shows. They recently returned to stages in Sydney supporting DMA’S and Tash Sultana, selling out two headline shows at The Lansdowne and appearing at venues in Newcastle and Wollongong, always putting a personal touch to their headline appearances for the audiences they now consider part of the big CLEWS extended family.
“Overluck” is building anticipation for CLEWS’ upcoming EP which is to be released mid 2021.
