Indie Foursome Dande And The Lion Return With Their Latest Single “Higher Places”
Making their grand return, Sydney’s indie-pop four-piece Dande and The Lion have declared their latest single “Higher Places” a fully charged, electrifying prize that has been in the works for 8 years.
Taking their trademark indie-electronic sound to a new elevated level, “Higher Places” begins as a slow burner before kicking into the mesmerising, soulful throws of the lead vocals. Obtaining so much strength and character the vocals are the life of this party. Though to no discredit, the instrumentation and production are a perfect pair, a match made in heaven if you will.
“I wrote the intro riff and the bare skeleton to this song about 8 years ago and then I left it in my little book of notes. Shortly after the band formed in 2016, the lyrics just came to me all at once and I knew in that moment that the music I’d written years prior would be a perfect fit.
I wanted to take the listener on a journey with me to feel the excitement, love, joy and pain of opening your heart to another human and connecting with them at a deeper level, beyond friendship. I took the song to the band and we worked out all the details. I wanted Abbey to start the song and for me to come in after the first chorus to create that feeling of two different perspectives on an experience that two people were sharing.
Our producer and engineer, Lachlan Mitchell, had a big influence on me and has been on this song's journey with us over the past couple of years - we have him to thank for bringing it to life the way I envisaged it.”
“Higher Places” is the band's first release since their 2019 EP “Twilight Highway”, which put their powerful vocal harmonies and catchy rhythms on display with four separate songwriters coming together for the project. 2 years and one global pandemic later, Dande and The Lion are here to prove they still have it.
