Blanco White Brings Subtle Latin Heat With "Mano a Mano"
Londoner Josh Edwards -- known better under his nom de pop Blanco White -- is not one to hide in his comfort zone. His latest releases have shown just that, as Edwards opts to venture away from his signature Latin-influenced folk in favour of more indie pop-inspired tracks such as “Desert Days.”
With that said, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to what you know, so long as you can do it well. And Edwards does exactly that with “Mano a Mano.”
At six minutes and twenty seconds, “Mano a Mano” serves as a subtle, epic ode to Edwards’ beloved Latin American music. The track starts quietly with hushed strings and gentle guitar riffs, with Edwards soothingly serenading the listener in Spanish. The song incrementally swells as its volume gradually increases, yet it never gets out of hand. It feels like a journey through an isolated forest, soundtracked by a hauntingly beautiful instrumental filled with lush vocals.
“Mano a Mano” -- Spanish for “hand-to-hand” -- is Blanco White’s second single of 2020, following a string of releases in late 2019. These tracks have all been highly-anticipated previews for his upcoming album On the Other Side. While these releases have been an interesting amalgamation of what to expect, what’s for certain is that On the Other Side is sure to be filled with a gorgeous mix of signature Blanco White folk tunes and more sombre, harmonic tracks.
We are very much looking forward to hearing what Blanco White has in store for us this year; June 5th could not come any sooner!
