Blanco White Delivers a Melodic, Psychedelic, and New Worldly Sound With Samara

Blanco White takes the gritty folk sound of Kaleo and mixes it with the mystical airyness of Father John Misty to give you his newest single, “Samara”. 

Londoner Blanco White, or has his family knows him, Josh Edwards, started a solo project in 2014. He studied guitar in Cadiz Spain and later the Andean instrument, the charango, in Sucre Bolivia. Edwards wanted to bring together a mixture of both Andulasian and Latin American music alongside influences closer to his side of the pond.  

“I think it was those childhood memories and an early connection with Andean music that made me want to seek out the charango and begin experimenting with it, even if I wasn’t sure what form that experimentation would take,” said Josh Edwards.

Blanco White has released three EPs, with the first one being in 2016 and the latest in 2018. Since the release of the three-song 2018 EP, he has released four new songs. His latest single was released on March 13th and is called “Samara”. 

“Samara” is an airy dream. The way Blanco Whites voice transcends with his fingerpicking guitar style is almost hypnotic. His icy compelling vocals mix with the warm singing psychedelic sound of the guitar to create a new sound from the once soothing Latin American-style folk from his earlier releases. “Samara” is the perfect taster for the diversity of the sounds on White’s forthcoming debut album “On The Other Side”, expected to release in June 2020.

White’s ability to capture a high level of attention to detail in his lyricism using his soothing enchanting voice as a pure reflection of the genius of his music, and has earned him coverage in Clash Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, The Independent and more, as well as millions of listens across streaming services.
