Blanco White Creates An Atmospheric Tidal Wave with On the Other Side
Londoner Blanco White has finally shared his latest album, “On The Other Side”, and it is an absolute treat. After teasing us with a string of gorgeous singles such as “Desert Days” and “Samara,” White -- real name Josh Edwards -- has tied it all together with a set of eleven beautiful tracks that work wonderfully with the promotional songs released over the last several months.
“On the Other Side”, the album’s opener and title track, perfectly sets the stage for an album that is riddled with lush, atmospheric production and centred around the charango, an Andean instrument that gives off a delicate shrillness when played. As the record proceeds, the songs seem to flow fluidly through one another without sounding entirely identical. White’s vocals soar on tracks like “Mano a Mano” and “All That Matters,” while he takes a more gentle approach on others such as “Papillon.” Altogether, it makes for an airy, melodic tsunami of music inspired by White’s time in Latin America. It is just beautiful, and we highly recommend it as a way to relax and help take your mind off the stressful, uncertain times we are currently facing.
White studied guitar in Spain and the charango in Bolivia, and the results of his practice are very clear in his music. These instruments play paramount roles in [Insert Album Title Here], creating a beautiful mixture of Latin American-inspired folk and Western indie that amalgamate into White’s signature sound. White is also a gifted storyteller, as his songs set the scene for gorgeously-written narratives presented in musical form.
We are loving this album, and we can’t wait to see where this takes Blanco White next!
