Karmel Jager Channels Iso Thoughts Into Her Moody Jazz-Hop Production

This week we had the joy of being introduced to Karmel Jager, and her new song “Nowhere To Go”.

To start with, Karmel is a super groovy individual with a really cool musical past - she was actually a professional classical singer, honing her craft at the Sydney Conservatorium and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After creating music for video games and TV shows in Europe, she’s now a mad-dog DJ, popping up at Sydney club nights including Sunday Service, Undisclosed (Goodbar), This is Living, Gigs in the Garden (The Roundhouse), Birdcage (Slyfox) and Tokyo Sing Song.

Thanks to her diverse musical background, Karmel finds it difficult to stick to one genre, and as a DJ plays deep house, house, minimal, progressive, techno and R’n’B… Which is super clear in her latest release “Nowhere To Go”, which is a mix of house, jazz-hop, R’n’B and a million other sounds.

The track came from the depths of isolation, and is an impassioned and introspective release. Building on the success of 2019's electro-pop jam, “Trafalgar Square”, “Nowhere To Go” brings sultry vocals and mellow, jazzy riffs that touch on the frantic thoughts and frustrated yearning for connection brought through isolation.

Nowhere to Go is a mini ‘tantrum’ that I wrote and produced from start to finish one day during the height of Sydney’s isolation,” said Karmel. “It’s an introspective release, capturing a time of pent-up frustration, yearning for connection and a longing for days seemingly out of reach.”

We are obsessed!
