We’re taking the hint from Jade Bird’s single “Headstart”
At only 22 years of age Jade Bird has already amassed quite the career, now she’s back with another track that is certain for greatness. “Headstart” is the sprightly alt-pop single that marks Bird’s resurgence from her short hiatus.
With folk undertones, the indie-rock songstress accompanies the bouncy spirited rhythm with vintage inspired raspy vocalisation that accents Jade’s pure, organic aptitude. Inspired by some of the greatest strong female songwriters like Patti Smith and Alanis Morisette, Bird herself proves to be a natural born lyricist.
“Headstart” is an innocuous ode to liking someone when they are just not quite picking up what you're putting down. It embodies the not so subtle signals and manifestations that go unheard in trying to unite a relationship naturally.
“Headstart came out of a trip I made to upstate New York at the beginning of the year.” Bird says, “Being there, I was immediately taken back to the magic and inspiration of creating the first album . It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, but more than that releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again.”
While still in the early days of her career Jade Bird is already a striking front runner, the wunderkind has already landed opening slots for the likes of Hozier, The Lumineers, Father John Misty, and Lewis Capaldi, just to name a few. Performing dynamic shows at huge events such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Hangout Festival and SXSW and already achieving a Top 10 hit on the UK charts, Jade Bird is one to watch.
