Jade Bird is Otherworldly in Her Lush New Single “Open up the heavens”
Dominating the indie-rock realm one release at a time is UK’s songstress Jade Bird. Back with yet another impressive track “Open up the heavens,” a charismatic and charming example of why we can’t get over Jade Bird.
Fusing the borders of luscious instrumentation and the perfectly smokey vocals, “Open up the heavens” is doing just that, Opening the gateway to Heaven. Rich with sonic influences from rock, roots, folk and blues music, Jade Bird is certainly growing into her sense of self and building her unique identity music.
Having been described by Evening Standard as “In the sweet spot between Jack White and Dolly Parton” it is no surprise that Jade is taking the world by storm, gaining popularity with each release.
"Open up the heavens was written and recorded two days before I had to fly home from recording in Nashville.” said Bird. “I’d heard stories about the last song you write for a record being the best, so I was searching for that in the vocal booth of RCA that evening. Halfway into the riff Dave (Cobb) pops his head in and says ‘you should really do something with that.’ So I did. I sent the song to him 2 hours later and before I knew it, everyone was brought back in and we were tracking my favourite song on the record.“
While her voice has been compared to vintage stars like Alanis Morissette, Dolly Parton and Janis Joplin, Jade Bird’s songwriting and effortless ability to blend genres place her firmly in the new leagues of innovative female performers like Maggie Rogers and Phoebe Bridgers. At only 22 years old, it is obvious that the rawness and freedom of Bird’s musicianship stretches far beyond her years.
Bird is a rising star on the London music scene, delivering a fantastic mix of alternative folk, country and pop. Her incredible debut self-titled album was released in 2019 to widespread critical acclaim, and saw her achieve a Top 10 spot in the UK charts, and #1 Heatseeker and #1 New Artist Alternative acknowledgements in the US, as well as surpassing 27 millions streams in the UK alone.
