Jade Bird Shares Her Second Album 'Different Kinds of Light'
Jade Bird has given us exactly what we needed with her second album Different Kinds of Light. With three single releases over the past year, we’ve been waiting with anticipation for the tiny but mighty artistic force that is Jade to release the full tracklist. As expected, it was worth the wait.
Perhaps the only person who’s been looking forward to this moment more than us, is Jade herself. She’s taken this last year, and all the challenges that came with it, head on. The 23-year-old artist has grown exponentially since her last album. It’s worth mentioning her age because of how stunning her songwriting and production is growing to become. Usually an artist reaches this level of talent later on in their career but Different Kinds of Light has solidified what we already knew, Jade Bird is in a league of her own.
This album shows a new side of Jade Bird. An edgier, more mature side that’s letting the world know she’s ready to start this new chapter of her career. Tracks like “Open Up The Heavens” and “I’m Getting Lost” show how her music has evolved; bringing in rock elements to her alternative sound while still remaining authentic.
On the record Jade says, "Different Kinds of Light at its most basic is about falling in love and at its most complex, the chaos of trying to get away from your past. I’ve written about fictional characters, about myself and people who don’t exist or at least only exist in my mind, memory and imagination. This record started in Japan, a small getaway from a busy year. We took it to Mexico, to Nashville and to upstate New York adding pieces of songs along the way until it became the different phases of who I am, what my relationship is and what my relationship to other people has become. It’s been a big exploration through evenings and mornings spent under strange skies. With Different Kinds of Light came different kinds of clarity in my life."
The consistent irresistible grooves and lyrics that are pulled straight from the heart make Different Kinds of Light a straight play through. Jade has mastered the art of conveying sentimental emotions while making her listeners jam out. She packs a punch with her vocals, even on shorter songs like “Headstart”. Jade uses every second of every song to give it all she’s got.
We were already primed and impatiently waiting for Jade to drop this album after hearing teaser tracks “Now Is The Time,” “Houdini,” and “Open up the heavens” but the songstress has managed to exceed all expectations and presented us with a true masterpiece.
It goes without saying that we’re big fans of Jade Bird but regardless, this album has left us impressed with how much she’s evolved as an artist. Her confidence and talent shines through each song. It’s only up from here, Jade!
