The Flowers exude confidence in their latest hit “Wore It Like I Stole It”
Up and coming Sydney four-piece The Flowers are radiating tenacious alternative pop energy in their latest single release “Wore It Like I Stole It”.
Front woman Agnes O’Dwyer (Aggy) is a magnetic maverick whose vocals know no limits. From casual singing verses to seemingly effortless belting choruses, Aggy emanates aplomb. Behind Aggy, the band comprised of drummer Leighton Cauchi, guitarist Liam Sinclair and bassist Tom Haeusler complete the dynamic quartet.
“Wore It Like I Stole It is about keeping your guard up”, tells Aggy, “Being "guarded" is often painted in a bad light. It's seen as cold ,non-committal and distant. But this song talks about how protecting your heart and keeping your walls up isn't always such a bad thing.”
The track evolved from the peak of lockdown 1.0, where the onset of doom and unpredictability had transpired. Emerging from these gloomy feelings comes the apocalyptic melodramatic lyrics that Aggy’s brooding voice chimes. Contrastingly, this track is spirited and spry. The Flowers have counteracted the lyrics with light and dancy beats creating the perfect equilibrium.
Taking influence from The Aces, Paramore and Fickle Friends, “I Wore It Like I Stole It” reshapes the styles of sparkly guitars, funky basslines and playful synths that these bands are renowned for, with The Flower’s own twist.
The Flowers are making a promising entrance into the music world, this track is Aussie alternative pop in it’s most true form.
