Dyan Tai is pushing boundaries with latest single “Freedom”

Opening up the conversation of diversity and visibility of Queer and Trans People of Colour (QTPOC), Dyan Tai releases unchained dance track “Freedom”. Malaysian born and Sydney based, Tai has poured his personal endeavour of coming out to create this stunningly soul-stirring slow pop tune.

The self titled “Asian empress of the gay streets of Sydney” has perfectly meshed two worlds within “Freedom”. Being influenced by traditional Chinese music, Tai fuses dance pop beats with Chinese instruments like the Guzheng in melodies, connecting two cultures seamlessly.

“I spent a lot of time during my childhood in Malaysia not living authentically and not being the best version of myself. Freedom (自由) is a celebration of our truest potential.” Said Tai, “The Song is about self- love and self-respect by living truthfully. When we find freedom, it will wash away our insanity”

Vocally, Dyan Tai pushes the boundaries of male vocals by using notes at the top of the vocal range. You can hear the liberation in Tai’s sopranos that yearn for  “Freedom”.

The edgy performative activism of “Freedom” is sure to be making waves and raising awareness for anyone in a similar circumstance. We’re sure that this won't be the last you'll see of Dyan Tai and his acclaimed mirror coated keytar.
