Lola Scott dishes us the anthem of our twenties ‘The Eviction Song’
Sticking it to the landlord is something we all wish we could do. C’mon you've thought about it at least once or twice. Lola Scott proves to be the hero of our generation with the alt-pop statement anthem ‘The Eviction Song.’ Good times and noise complaints go hand in hand, that's just the nature of life in your twenties.
From the outset we’re given a chirpy electro-pop melody that feels like a spring morning, Scott soons brings us back to reality, a tale for all renters, with zealous opening line, ‘fuck our lease is getting terminated’. Following six moves in the span of four years, ‘The Eviction Song’ which is co-written and co-produced by Oscar Sharah, is the ultimate pronouncement to stop ‘pleasing everyone’ and just enjoy life.
“The most chaotic share houses I’ve lived in have always been my favourite but when you live with a bunch of wildcards and have the type of landlord who hoards things under the floorboards you can never please everyone” said Scott. But don't be mistaken, she does not want this song to feel negative, but rather an ode to being nonchalant. While it does feel like the ‘end of our lives’, life does in fact go on after the eviction notice. Who knew?
With rich, raspy and expressive vocals, Scott’s voice is the summit of this track. You can feel the airy breathlessness of passion in the chorus, amplified by the layers of vocals. Taking influence from the likes of Broods, Wolf Alice and Banks, it is unmistakable that Scott is living up to these legends.
Lola Scott’s house parties must go in (in her new house, of course!). We’re waiting for our invite to the legendary bashes that inspired this banger.
