Young Clancy Reveals Latest Album Featuring 11 Unique Toronto Voices
If there is one good thing to come out of covid isolation, it’s Canadian producer Young Clancy’s latest album “SOMETHING SOMETHING TAPE”, released via Black Box. The album hosts a collection of eleven distinctive voices in the city’s thriving independent R&B and hip-hop scenes, where Clancy refines a unique and tangible perspective on “The New Toronto Sound.”
Speaking on the project, Young Clancy says: “I hope this project further illustrates what I’m sure many are beginning to realize, that there’s so much more beneath the surface here. This was a dark year. I'm happy and lucky to have made something I like. I think it's a fun project with some very anxious undertones. Mostly I'm so grateful to all the artists who worked with me on this. I didn't feel super inspired this year but this is something and it's thanks to them."
A mixtape of sorts, Clancy is giving his own definition of modern hip-hop, creating a dreamscape along the way. Each song unique in its own way, the album remains cohesive, crossing softer production style with vintage notes as seen in big shots like Tyler the Creator in his later work and Frank Ocean.
“SOMETHING SOMETHING TAPE” was produced by Young Clancy in his basement over lockdown, exploring the idea of creating around the times, rather than for the times. This remote collaboration showcases Clancy’s lithe production touch, flashing a genre-fluent ability to corral any sound, and inspire visionary artists.
We’ve already heard and loved the two most recent singles from the album “SAUCY” and “OOH AAH”, we’ll be excited to see where the album takes Clancy next.
