Mijo Biscan Releases Poignant Track "That's So Pretty"
Melbourne singer-songwriter Mijo released his second single "That’s So Pretty". “That’s So Pretty” explores the scar of a painful break-up with the benefit of hindsight, some distance and a new perspective. With a beautiful swelling quartet and resonating harp this tilting love song raises you before revealing the darker underbelly of unrequited love.
The track tells an untold story, with poignant lyrics that resonate deeply within every lover’s soul, of the nuances, ambiguity and messiness of heartbreak. It’s closing line is a heart-wrenching representation of a break-up, and yet still feels like a soft-landing; “That’s so pretty. Baby, everything always looks so good on you. Everything but my love looks good on you.”
The gorgeous music video for "That's So Pretty", premiered by Clipped TV, features nostalgic, pastel-tinted vision of a young couple in the desperate throes of love and loss. Their deep connection is reflected by mirrored body language and impeccable acting, while each perfectly composed shot draws closer to the inevitable, heartbreaking end.
This single follows up from Mijo’s first track of 2019, “You’ve Got Your Life”, the creative, tongue-in-cheek music video for which was premiered by The AU Review. Receiving praise from Dave Ruby Howe of triple j Unearthed, as well as Good Intent, Amnplify and Culture Eater, the song set the tone of high-quality surf/indie rock sonics to come from Mijo.
Along with his new solo creations, Mijo has already experienced a rewarding career having been an established and respected artist for over a decade, as well as proud co-creator of critically acclaimed band Lamplight. So far in his solo career, Mijo has toured 13 countries in Europe and has been featured as a support act to renowned artists such as Goyte, MissyHiggins, Clare Bowditch and Tommy Emmanuel, both in Australia and abroad.
Mijo is willing to go the extra mile for his craft. Eager to push the concept of solitude as a pathway to inspiration, Mijo travelled to Iceland where he stayed alone in a remote weatherboard cabin, surrounded by mountains and a breathtaking fjord. “It was dead quiet. Shockingly quiet,” he said. “In the midst of the silence, the only thing I could hear were my innermost thoughts waiting to manifest into new songs.” Mijo’s month-long songwriting retreat formed the genesis for a creative shift. It was the crucial starting point for his upcoming record, to be released later this year.
In his spare time, along with being a prolific songwriter, Mijo is a creative mindset coach, vegan of 18 years, sunny optimist usually seen sporting a bright yellow t-shirt, and determined to find the golden thread running through the mess of life.
