Kayex Get Groovy on "I'll Do What U Want"
Electronic duo Kayex, who are quickly claiming the title of kings of ornate dance jams, have today released their groovy new single “I'LL DO WHAT YOU WANT”, the follow up to their debut EP “Tempus In LA” (released in 2019). The track shows them back in their groove with their unique signature style of blending indie-pop, electronic funk, and ambient music.
We may be stuck inside, but Kayex ensure eternal sunshine on “I’ll Do What U Want.” The versatile electronic duo have created another hooky dance track that will undoubtedly remain in rotation in your head for days on end. No complaints here -- the groove-inflected guitars and synths make for two minutes of pure bliss that will keep you warm all throughout the winter months.
Kayex consists of Perth-born, Sydney-based childhood friends Tom Derickx and Palassi Kailis. With an impressive resume -- including opening for SG Lewis and playing for Louis Vuitton and Tommy Hilfiger -- the duo is en route to making waves in the mainstream electronica scene. Their music is reminiscent of Australia’s own Cosmo’s Midnight mixed with 90’s Euro house, utilising funky guitar slaps and groovy keys to evoke a 1996 club scene in the midst of the 21st century. In their own words:
“Since day one, all we set out to do was make music that people could get up and dance to, while also having a level of lyrical depth and meaning. ‘I’ll Do What U Want’ epitomises this idea for us.”
Kayex debuted their live show at Sydney’s Listen Out Festival, and in late 2018 won the triple j Unearthed competition that allowed them to perform at Sydney’s Field Day Festival on New Year’s Day 2019. They also supported SG Lewis on his national Australian tour in 2018, played for brands such as GQ, Corona Sunsets in Japan, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton, Budweiser and Heineken. They also supported Crooked Colours on their national Australian tour in 2019.
Their debut EP “Tempus in LA” was successfully released late last year, and gained nearly 250k streams in 3 months. Drawing from inspirations such as Daft Punk, Kanye West and Chance the Rapper, there is no doubt that KAYEX will continue to push boundaries in 2020.
“I’ll Do What U Want” is the first release of what looks to be another promising year for Kayex. We are quite keen to hear what they’ve got in store for us , and we can’t wait to see where the future takes this shining duo!
