Gang Of Youths Share The New Single "the man himself"
Australian indie-rock band Gang of Youths continue the momentum of their comeback with their third single, “the man himself.”
Reflecting on the loss of his father, frontman Dave Le’aupepe uses “the man himself” to express his feelings. A mixture of grief and enlightenment, the single is a masterpiece that combines raw sonic elements to create an emotional piece. It features a violin intro, an atmospheric piano breakdown, and sampled field recordings of Indigenous Polynesian music that when paired along an energetic beat take us through the emotional journey that one goes through after experiencing loss.
The song serves as a healing piece that honors the memory of Le’aupepe’s late father. He’s realized that things cannot go back to the way they were and that from now on he must move forward in life without a comforting hand to guide him.
Dave Le’aupepe commented, “If I ever have kids I’m not really sure how to raise them without my dad helping me out.”
This last year has been monumental for Gang of Youths. Their long awaited comeback has brought them success in Australia and in America; a huge milestone for the band. The love they've received on their EP and singles has been well deserved as the band has taken their music to the next level and “the man himself” is no exception.
