Winifred Reveals Eccentric Alt-pop Piece “Drowning Purple"
Taking another leap into the weird and wonderful world of Winifred, the Melbourne based alternative pop phenomenon has just released her latest single “Drowning Purple”. Truly unique in every sense of the word, the eccentric mastermind is building a curious environment with quirky production styles that ricochet rhythmically in this track.
“When I wrote Drowning Purple, I put two words together that sparked a visualisation and a mood. ‘Drowning’ and ‘Purple’, for some reason those two words seemed to hit on a feeling and so I delved into it,” said Winifred. “I think Drowning Purple has melodramatic qualities, ie, ’I’m Drowning Purple for you, can you hear me calling your name’ but I also feel there’s a strong sense of romance as the song develops, not necessarily reflecting real life, maybe more of a fantasy or a daydream.”
With a deep-rooted passion for contemporary dance that perfectly pairs with her alternative pop style, Winifred has revealed the music video for “Drowning Purple”, a choreographed masterpiece soaked in purple while the camera follows every one of her charismatic moves.
The beginning of 2021 saw Winifred’s first release since her debut “Into the Night” which premiered on The Music. Alongside the track, Winifred released a stunning creative dance music video choreographed by Zoee Marsh (George Alice, Vera Blue). The track has since received praise by Women In Pop, Milky, Amnplify and more.
Originally from North Queensland, the now Melbournian Winifred is putting her own eccentric twist on modern pop. Amidst her notable achievements in 2020: Winifred was the co-writer for “In My Mind” with Alice Ivy featuring Ecca Vandal, which was featured in a global Apple 'Shot on iPhone' ad campaign in August that rose the track to #1 on the U.S. Shazam Discovery Chart and earned an addition to high rotation on Triple J among others successes.
With more music on the agenda, Winifred is setting herself up for greater successes in 2021.
