Sydney’s Hip Hop Artist Zekiel has Struck Gold in Latest Single - “Like Gold”
Sydney rapper Zekiel has returned with another hit single “Like Gold”, which much like its title, we’ll agree that it is in fact “Like Gold”! Coming face to face with the difficult truths of alcohol and substance abuse, this single is a moment of reflection for the hip hop artist, underscoring the process of overcoming his own affliction.
“For so long, I identified myself as the ‘party guy’ happy to shrug responsibility off and escape from reality at any opportunity,” said Zekiel. “I thought I had the weight of the world on my shoulders and I felt like I was alone in that regard. I wasn't, but I felt that way for sure. Overtime, that ‘anywhere, anytime’ lifestyle took a massive toll on me and I went through some of the darkest days of my life as a result.”
Taking a calm approach to hip hop as a genre, “Like Gold” is a relaxed lofi track, despite its weighted topic. Bordering on the styles of Post Malone and The Weeknd, Zekiel is putting his versatility on full display with experimentation and the blending of genres.
Alongside the track, the video clip for “Like Gold” has been unveiled. A dusky biopic underlining the relationship between Zekiel and alcohol and the ramifications that attain his surrounding relationships and lifestyle.
This track follows Zekiel’s most recent single release “Energy” which was released in September of last year, co-written and produced by Taka Perry who has previously worked with the likes of M-Phazes, Mick Schultz, Max Frost, and Ruel.
It’s clear that Zekiel is quickly finding his pace. As a songwriter, he’s worked with musicians such as Thelma Plum, Cosmo’s Midnight and Jack Gray. With talent bursting from the seams and the incredible storytelling ability, it is clear that Zekiel has a bright future ahead. Let’s all hope there is more of Zekiel to come in 2021.
