Reb Fountain Blesses Us With Her Second Album IRIS
After multiple stellar single releases, Reb Fountain has finally blessed us with her second album IRIS. Inspired by the goddess of the same name, IRIS tells stories that reveal our humanity and delve deeper into the experiences of Reb and those that surround her.
Reb on writing the album,“I tried to catch the light refracting - the full saturation of suchness – and remain open to whatever emerged. The space we found at Sublime and the tight-knit connection that we held was intricately woven into the fabric of IRIS during the writing, production and recording process. IRIS provided me an opportunity to speak my unspoken, to reflect what I have seen and experienced from within and to bear witness. These songs are a reminder of a map to a place we all know. They are a vision of our past, a memory of our future and high beam headlights whether you’re behind the wheel or staring down the barrel of their glare. They are a story of endless unrequited love and the hunt for tethering to a kindred spirit.
Reb’s musings for Greek mythology doesn’t end with the title of the album. “Psyche” is the grand opening of this body of work. With a daunting violin and piano, Reb sets the tone. She tells the tale of our journey as humans through tragedy and how it affects us.
The third track on the album, “Invisible Man,” explores individuality and our search for the things that are unattainable to us; the memories and people that haunt us in times of trouble when we crave “normality.” Reb’s latest single, “Foxbright,” serves as a reminder that there’s love to be found even when we can’t find it in ourselves.
“Fisherman” has a deep bass and somber violin, with religious references that propel its message forward. Reb sings about the horrors of humanity and how so many people choose to turn a blind eye. It sends home the message that we must come together and hold the culprits accountable. We can no longer avoid the problems washing up on our very shores. Reb received Peggy Seer’s blessing to include her cover of “Swim To The Star”, a fitting anthem for our times, on the album.
The title track inspired by another Greek goddess, “Iris”, is a feminist anthem with soaring, ethereal violins that capture the divine feminine. Reb sings of the feelings of love women experience for themselves, for each other, and for others; the power and the consequences they hold. “Intermission”, the album’s final song, has a groovy psychedelic vibe that guides us on how to successfully survive life.
All in all, IRIS is a work of art. Reb Fountain’s range, emotional depth, and talent are endless. She's created an audio and visual experience that has real meaning. Reb is a creative genius on a new level!
