Queen of Quirky Pop: E^ST's New Single is Effervescent
E^ST is becoming one of Australia’s premier indie-pop starlets. With two of her previous singles cracking the Hottest 100, and her first single of 2020 “FRESH OUT OF LOVE” being added to triple j rotation immediately after its release, she is a true force to be reckoned with in the industry.
Her new song “MAYBE IT’S ME” is yet another alternative hit, playing with crazy, unique sonics and quirky lyricism. She also manages to hit the nail on the head of the nihilistic millennial viewpoint, intolling, “maybe it’s me,” in response to the things that go wrong in her life. She just totally gets us
“This song is about being a hot mess in life, and starting to wonder if maybe life has nothing to do with it and you just kinda suck,” said E^ST.
Produced with her key collaborator, Jim Eliot (Halsey, Ellie Goulding, Kylie Minogue), this release comes at the perfect time for the Australian music industry, providing a much-needed sonic pick-me-up, as well as a shock to the cookie-cutter pop formula.
2020 is set to be a huge year for E^ST, with her debut album “I’M DOING IT” on the way. The album centers on feelings of heartbreak, isolation and failure… And if these two singles are anything to go by, it’s set to signal a huge leap forward from her EP releases “Old Age” and “Life Ain’t Always Roses” (which we also loved, by the way).
We can’t wait to see what E^ST brings to the table next, because it will certainly be different from everything else!
