Paging Doctor Marra... we need some "Medicine"
Jake Marra openly embraces pop music. If you open his Spotify library, you’ll find pop icons left, right and centre. Ariana, Britney, Robyn, Lorde and Dua reign supreme in Marra’s recently played category.
“I’m never not listening to pop music,” Marra testifies, proudly of course!
That exact declaration is incredibly apparent in his music, and wonderfully so. His latest track, “Medicine,” is exemplary of this. A pulsating, hard-hitting pop banger, “Medicine” pays homage to the influential pop heavyweights Marra holds so dear to his heart. The message of “Medicine” revolves around reliance on someone else for one’s own happiness. Sourcing happiness from others creates the dependency on them for a fix, the “Medicine” that relieves you.
“Having someone you enjoy being around is great, but when you can’t handle being on your own and become addicted to another person, you’re in big trouble,” he says of the track.
Marra admits this song is a little heavy with its lyrical content but it's hard to notice at first, with the convivial energy you experience when you hit play.
“Realising I could channel my pain into catchy pop songs was the best discovery I’ve ever made,” Marra divulged.
After spending five years on the indie music radar, Marra has found his sound and is ready to carve out a path as one of Australia’s most exciting pop artists. His 2015 mashup of Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” and Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” made waves and received attention worldwide from Billboard, MTV, Teen Vogue and even Grande herself. With performances at Wine Machine 2019 and Disco Faith Choir, Marra has proven time and again that he’s ready to break out and make his name in the Aussie pop scene. His magnetic debut single “The Day That You Left” kicked off what is sure to be an exciting 2020 for Marra, and his forthcoming releases will prove just what the hype is all about.
Living for the pop legends Marra idolises leaves tough shoes to fill, we think Marra is shaping up to be among them!
