Millie Turner Came in Swinging with Her New Single "Jungle"

Up and coming indie-pop artist Millie Turner is someone to obsess over. Like other artists such as Lorde and Lily Allen, Turner has a unique and compelling way of taking personal life experiences and beautifully telling them through her lyrics. She is one of those artists who cannot help but be transparent in their work, which is why Turner’s music is so easily retable for us mundanes.

Turner started releasing singles in 2017, and was in quick receipt of media plaudits for her prodigious talents that has seen her grow into a firm one to watch for 2020. Early backers Vice wrote she “sounds like the pulse of a 2am dancefloor”, The Fader zoned in on her songwriting which they found to be “totally transfixing.” She has since earned spots on NME’s Ones To Watch list and BBC Radio 1’s Best New Pop, and has recently collaborated with H&M to create her own T-shirts from art she had originally drawn. Millie Turner is continuing to take the world by storm in 2020, supporting indie-pop darling Tove Lo on her 12-date UK and Europe headline tour in March.

On top of  supporting Tove Lo’s European tour this month, she has also just released a new single, following her 2019 EP “Hide and Seek”, called “Jungle”.

The new track presents insight into the mind of the 19 year old as she shares through her lyrics how she navigates life through the city of London.

It’s a metaphor for my life in the city, or where I feel in the world, or even within society itself. It's a place where I become entangled in the drama and wildness which can be both beautiful and scenic, like the incredible wildlife and scenes you find in a jungle. But despite the jungles ethereal beauty, it’s colluded with dangers that you become entrapped and caught in, which I guess what life can do. This song is a reminder to myself of the animalistic craziness in power structures within society, and the challenges life lures us into, and how to embrace and empower myself within that system”, said Turner.

Jungle”, sonically is an instant pop hit. The upbeat tempo and catchy chorus will have you bobbing your head and humming along instantly. If you listen closer, past the masterful production, you will hear her mesmerizing and unique vocals that had us holding onto every word.

However, like we briefly mentioned earlier, her lyrics are where the real artistic genius lies. In the chorus, Turner sings, “we don’t know the future, but we own it” with a youthful and earnest tone. Her lyrics provide inspiration for anyone who has ever doubted themselves or who have been worried about what the future might hold for them.

Whether you are feeling lost and misunderstood or are just looking for a great new tune to sing loudly to in your car. We highly recommend that you give “Jungle” a listen.
