Introducing Millie Turner: The UK's Most Exciting Dream Pop Princess
Millie Turner is a young 18 year old singer-songwriter from the UK, making huge waves in the dream-pop scene since she first arrived. With little knowledge of the makings of a pop-track, but 13 years of piano behind her belt, Millie hit the scene with a huge bang, proving she can absolutely bring it!
Not only is Turner a dream-pop princess, she co-directs all of her own music videos, cultivating spectacular lo-fi visuals and pairing scenes to her music so perfectly, like no one else could. She’s also proven her artistic talents by crafting the artwork for her debut EP and all of her singles, showcasing her illustrations and paintings. Millie is an all-round fire-force, we feel that it’s absolutely necessary to explore and celebrate her career to date. Kicking off her career with her first release, ‘Underwater’, Millie quickly established herself as a strong player in the game. “Underwater” proved her strong musical knowledge, with her stunning vocals and dreamy sound coming centre stage, her artistry was unquestionable. Her stunning track was accompanied by a video equally as gorgeous.
Her second single “She Was A Dancer” showed she is no one-trick-pony! Once again, Millie stunned with her effortlessly cool and creative tune, with lyricism that is simultaneously youthful and mature. Accompanied by a music video that offered addicting visuals, Millie really cemented her place in the scene. Both the single, and the music video were a showcase of the mesmerising and stunning art this young gal is capable of.
Millie went on to release a bunch more tracks in 2018, including “Night Running”, “You and I”, “Eyes on You” and “The Shadow” quickly establishing her sound and quality. NME went on to call “The Shadow” a future club classic, stating, “Forget the sticky floors and the irritating bar queues in your local club – there’s nothing quite like that blissful moment where a song finds itself commanding a dancefloor without really trying.”
Following the trend she had established in 2018, her first single of 2019 “Swimming Pool” was accompanied by a visually stunning and beautifully conceptualised music video. Millie stepped her music up another level, describing ‘a new phase’ of her music. When we met with Millie recently she described this phase as the 'Prologue' to her debut album.
“Swimming Pool was based on a poem I wrote that tells a story of a group of kids that destroy this old historic building, setting it on fire, breaking down its traditional walls. They then escape from the chaos, retreating to the walls of the swimming pool. They stay there together, muffling out the sound of chaos outside. It’s about rebellion, liberation and then escapism, stepping away and escaping in this swimming pool."
Bringing us to her new single and latest offering, “Ride This Train” which is definitely her strongest track to date. Her smooth tone and powerful vocal range carry this single. We had a sneak peak of the music video, the quality of which at this point comes as no surprise, is full of impeccable visuals, carrying themes of dance, nature, and colour that are quickly becoming notorious with Millie Turner’s name. The video is set for release on Thursday 19th August.
Millie is receiving a huge amount of love marked as one of the “Best New Pop” artists by BBC Radio 1 and as One to Watch from NME. We’re excited to keep following this amazing girl’s career, and can’t wait for her next release!
