We Have Discovered A Baby 'The 1975'... And We're Obsessed
UK indie-pop band Larkins have been our favourite new discovery lately, and their new single “Are We Having Any Fun Yet?” is their best offering yet (in our humble opinions).
Aside from simply being really well-composed, well-produced, well-performed pop, this track has everything from huge, anthemic moments, to a driving, heartbeat-esque bassline, to exquisite lyrical complexity throughout. It’s like The 1975’s vocoder-heavy vocals and melodic gorgeousness had a baby with Gang of Youths’ storytelling and Catfish and the Bottlemen’s long-haired brit-rock aesthetic.
The track also boasts production and mixing credits from Dan Nigro (Conan Gray, Sky Ferreira) and Andrew Dawson (Kanye West, Childish Gambino) respectively.
These guys are already developing an exciting reputation, with their anthemic, synth-laden pop gaining them new fans with each new release. The band have accumulated millions of streams already, with their two offerings for 2019, the “TV Dream” EP and single “Not Enough Love” amassing 5 million alone. They’ve also been named in the NME ‘100 for 2020’!
And if you’re already poised to jump on the fandom train, wait til you hear this: Josh Noble, Dom Want (guitar/synth), Henry Beach (bass/synth) and Joe Gaskell (drums) are super passionate about climate change awareness, gender equality and ethical practices in the music industry. Swoon. These guys are also super active on social media and are really connected to their fanbase, which can be rare to find these days!
All in all, Larkins are electric, charismatic and ambitious, as much as they are genuine, sweet and funny. It’s safe to say we’re in love.
