S A N N I A Returns With "Love You Like"
Melbourne native S A N N I A is back with another moving ballad. “Love You Like” touches on the negative feelings and behaviors that arise as a result of being in an unhealthy relationship.
S A N N I A is no stranger to using heartbreak as a fuel for her art. She’s opening herself up again to talk about the extent to which a toxic person can impact your feelings and how the hold that they have on you can get so strong that no one can convince you to leave. With “Love You Like”, the creative spark was ignited by Amy Winehouse’s biopic.
“I was watching the Amy (2015) film on Netflix and found myself really struck by the story of her ex checking her out of rehab to get high together -I thought about it for days afterwards, how alone she must’ve felt to only feel whole with a person that was doing irreparable damage, and how isolated she must’ve felt to walk away from help for the belonging she felt with him. For me her addiction to her enabler was more heartbreaking than her other dependencies and I think a lot of people have experienced at least one relationship like that. I’ve definitely been there a few times which is probably why it resonated so deeply with me. I wrote the song and put together the first demo in my bedroom during the second Melbourne lockdown and finished it off with Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy) in January.”
“Love You Like” is deeply personal. S A N N I A writes about how difficult it can be to be in the position where the only person who makes you feel better is also the one who’s hurting you. As the title suggests, it’s a love that is addicting and can be comparable to, or even worse than, drugs. Her powerful vocals emphasize the depth of the lyrics.
With an EP set to release this year, there’s no doubt we’ll be hearing more of this raw and emotional music from S A N N I A!
