Five Songs that inspired Ally Palmers new track " Need You Around"

In celebration of Ally Palmer’s debut release, we asked for her top 5 songs that inspired the lead single from her debut album, Need You Around out Now.

I love everything Michael Kiwanuka does. His music is a huge inspiration for my own songwriting. I love the development of this song, the instrumentation is stunning and it just hits all the feels! 

This song has consistently been on rotation in my life for the past 12 years. The groove is so addictive, and I could listen to it all day every day and I nearly do! Donny’s keyboard playing has been an influence in my own playing, and he plays that fender rhodes perfectly.

Absolutely love this tune. The lyrics, the groove, the keyboard fills just all fit so perfectly together. This song has to be one of my favourites from Van and is a perfect one to put on the roadtrip playlist. 

Nina Simone playing this piano part and singing is such a dream. The lyrics are just so good and Nina is such a skilled pianist. I love the subtle horn stabs in this song, I just wish it went for 10 minutes longer! 

 This song is so groovy, I love it! The string sections and the lines they play are stunning. This song was a huge inspiration for Need You Around, you can definitely hear it in the keyboard part!
